image001Sherman Theatre is delighted to announce the cast for its world premiere production of Lose Yourself, the powerful new play by Katherine Chandler – the Sherman’s Playwright in Residence. The production, directed by Sherman Theatre Associate Artist Patricia Logue, runs at the Sherman from 10 – 25 May.

An exceptional trio of young actors will make their Sherman debuts in this hard-hitting production. Tim Preston takes the role of young soccer star Josh. Tim is a graduate of Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and performed in the Sherman Theatre and RWCMD co-production All That I Am. On television Tim recently appeared as Martin Clunes’ son in BBC1 sitcom Warren. Having previously appeared on stage at Shakespeare’s Globe, Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester and Tobacco Factory Theatres, Aaron Anthony will play veteran footballer Nate, having most recently appeared alongside Dawn French, Emilia Fox and Iain Glen in Sky One drama Delicious. Making her professional stage debut, Gabrielle Creevy, playing the fun-loving Yaz, is already a familiar face to some, having appeared in BBC Three’s 2018 pilot In My Skin, since commissioned for a full series. Gabrielle will be back on the small screen later this year in Boom Cymru’s 15 Days.

Julia Barry, Sherman Theatre’s Executive Director, said: “Lose Yourself is the third piece of exciting new writing in this season, following on from Woof and The Taming of the Shrew, and I am delighted that both our writer and director are Associate Artists of Sherman Theatre.  Katherine Chandler is an exceptional Welsh playwright creating important work for our times, and in the hands of Patricia Logue, this promises to be a gripping production.  We have brought together a dynamic and talented cast and creative team and can’t wait to present this work to our audiences.”

Patricia Logue, director of Lose Yourself and Sherman Associate Artist, said: “I am so thrilled to be directing this young and diverse cast in Katherine Chandler’s vibrant new play, Lose Yourself. These three wonderful actors are charged up and ready to bring their experience, talent and courage to the rehearsal room, to Katherine’s play and to the Sherman’s audiences.”

Lose Yourself is the latest play by Sherman Theatre’s Playwright in Residence and creator of Bird Katherine Chandler. The play tells the story of one life-changing day from three different perspectives.  In a world of limited opportunity and few ways out, a celebrity status might just save you.  But today’s been a bad day…. Nate’s coming to the end of his career, Yaz hasn’t the means to get herself one and Josh ‘s injury could finish his before it’s even started….  Bad days need great nights out.  But at the end of the night, when things are out of control, someone might get hurt.

Carla Goodman completes the all-female writing, directing and design team for Lose Yourself. Carla’s recent credits include Martha, Josie and the Chinese Elvis at Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough, Pride and Prejudice at Nottingham Playhouse and York Theatre Royal and Gabriel for Richmond Theatre. The creative team is completed by Sound Designer Sam Jones who worked most recently on Sherman Theatre’s acclaimed Woof and Lighting Designer Andy Pike.

Lose Yourself runs at Sherman Theatre from 10 – 25 May. Tickets are available now via Sherman’s website at shermantheatre.co.uk or from the Sherman Box Office, in person or over the phone on 029 2064 6900.
