GLAMORGAN BREWING COMPANY & WALES MILLENNIUM CENTRE  ANNOUNCE WHO’S NEXT – AN EXHIBITION CELEBRATING UP-AND-COMING CREATIVE TALENT IN WALES

 

The new exhibition Who’s Next will spotlight five young creatives making exceptional work across a range of disciplines including photography, textile design, graphics & illustration.

A product of the recently announced corporate partnership between Glamorgan Brewing Co. & Wales Millennium Centre, the intention is that the show will become an annual event, spotlighting the next generation of Welsh creative talent at the country’s largest arts centre.

The brewery have commissioned bespoke work from each of the exhibition participants, which will be on show, alongside a wider selection of pieces from each artist’s portfolio.

The featured artists are:
Brad Newman (24) a landscape & travel photographer from Rhonda Cynon Taf
Ffion Williams (22) a textile designer working with heritage Welsh wool mills
Ellwyn Male (33) a fine artist & sculptor from Aberdare
Alex Banks (27) a creative director & designer. Director of We Should Create studio in Cardiff
Charley Wong (22) a young illustrator studying at the University of South Wales

FREE LIFE HACK EVENT TO INSPIRE NEXT GENERATION OF ARTS PROFESSIONALS

After the success of last year’s inaugural event, Sparc Valleys Kids and Wales Millennium Centre,  will host another Life Hack on 5 October 2019, at The Factory in Porth.

Supported by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, this year’s all-day event will give young people aged 11-25 from across South Wales the opportunity to meet professionals from the creative industries, take part in workshops and speed networking sessions, before finishing off the evening with a silent disco.

It’s a FREE event and food is included, but tickets must be booked at www.wmc.org.uk from Wednesday 11 September.

 

 

LOVECRAFT (NOT THE SEX SHOP IN CARDIFF) GOES ON WALES-WIDE TOUR – ALONGSIDE A NEW, WELSH-LANGUAGE VERSION

Fresh from its second run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff), a unique, one-woman, science-comedy musical from BAFTA Award-nominated, Welsh actress and singer Carys Eleri, will take on a 11-venue tour of Wales this autumn alongside a brand new, Welsh language adaptation called Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU!

Written and performed by Carys Eleri, Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff)/Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU! is a joyous but deeply personal show about the neuroscience of love and loneliness, tackling the most current themes of wellbeing and mental health with a soundtrack of original, multi-genre songs.

It is Carys’ debut as a writer – she is perhaps best known as the lead actor in S4C’s hit series Parch, for which she was nominated for a BAFTA in 2018 – and it was developed from scratch with the support of Wales Millennium Centre.

Lovecraft (Not the Sex Shop in Cardiff)/Cer i Grafu… sori… GARU! will tour venues across Wales 17 October-30 November.

 

 

ON YOUR FEET! ANNOUNCES FULL TOUR CAST

On Your Feet! are delighted to announce the casting for the UK tour of the show which plays at Wales Millennium Centre from 21 to 26 October 2019.

Direct from the West End, Philippa Stefani (Rent; In The Heights; Wicked; Sister Act) will play Gloria Estefan, George Ioannides (Annie; Mamma Mia; An Officer And A Gentleman) will play Emilio Estefan, Madalena Alberto (Evita; Cats; Les Miserables) will play Gloria Fajardo and Karen Mann (Fiddler on the Roof; Scrooge; Sister Act) will play the role of Consuelo.

On Your Feet! is the inspiring true love story of Emilio and Gloria and charts their journey from its origins in Cuba, onto the streets of Miami and finally to international superstardom and features some of the most iconic pop songs of the era, including Rhythm is Gonna Get YouCongaDon’t Want to Lose You and 1-2-3.

The Tony Award® nominated show ran on Broadway for two years playing over 750 performances.

On Your Feet! will be at Wales Millennium Centre 21-26 October 2019.

 

 

THREE HALLOWEEN-THEMED SUPPER CLWBS CONFIRMED 31 OCT-2 NOV

Supper Clwb – a whole evening’s entertainment served with two cocktails and three small plates, all for just £30 – launched at Wales Millennium Centre at the beginning of June, and have been a huge hit with audiences.

The Centre is thrilled to announce THREE Halloween-themed Supper Clwbs this autumn;

  • Burlesque on Thursday 31 October
  • Musicals on Friday 1 November
  • Drag on 2 November

All three will take place in ffresh, doors open at 7pm for a 7.45pm start.

 

 

YOUNG CAST ANNOUNCED FOR NATIVITY! THE MUSICAL 2019 UK TOUR

 

After making her stage debut in ‘Nativity! The Musical’ last year, producers of the smash-hit show are thrilled to announce Dani Dyer returns for a second year to play Polly Parker. Dani is best known for winning the 2018 series of ITV’s ‘Love Island’.

 

Dani will also be joined by Scott Garnham (Les Misérables; Wicked UK Tour) and Ashleigh Gray (Wicked West End and UK Tour) who will reprise their roles for a second year as ‘Mr Maddens‘ and Jennifer Lore’, Jamie Chapman returns for a third year as ‘Patrick Burns’ and Scott Paige (Made in Dagenham) joins the company as the loveable ‘Mr Poppy’.

Following hugely successful open auditions in Cardiff, the following children aged 9-12 will star as the students of ‘Oakmoor School’. Eve Ossei-Gerning, Agatha Cameron-Kettle, Grace Nettle, Seren Bowen, Sophie Guarino, Starla Steer, Layla Romain-Yates, Georgia Thorne, Ava Grace Choung, Samuel Dacey, Liam Middleton, Oliver Davies, Lewis Brophy, Greg Lovitos and Danny Phillips will perform in the production alongside 22 lucky children chosen to star as the pupils of St Bernadette’s from auditions in Wolverhampton.

Every child in every school has one Christmas wish, to star in a Nativity, and at St Bernadette’s School they’ve decided to mount a musical version! Join teacher Mr Maddens and his crazy assistant Mr Poppy as they struggle with hilarious children, and a whole lot of sparkle and shine to make everyone’s Christmas wish come true. Featuring all of your favourite sing-a-long songs from the smash-hit films including Sparkle and Shine, Nazareth and One Night One Moment. NATIVITY! THE MUSICAL promises to be the perfect feel-good comedy for all the family.

SIX ANNOUNCES FULL TOUR CAST

The West End smash hit musical SIX written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, has announced the full cast for its 2019/20 UK Tour. The touring Queens will be played by Lauren Drew (Catherine of Aragon), Maddison Bulleyment (Anne Boleyn), Lauren Byrne (Jane Seymour), Shekinah McFarlane (Anna of Cleves), Jodie Steele (Katherine Howard) and Athena Collins (Catherine Parr), with Alternates Jennifer CaldwellCassandra Lee and Harriet Watson. The cast are backed by the show’s all-female band, The Ladies in Waiting.

From Tudor queens to pop princesses, SIX sees the six wives of Henry VIII take to the mic to tell their own personal tales, remixing five hundred years of historical heartbreak into an 80-minute celebration of 21st century girl power.

These Queens may have green sleeves, but their lipstick is rebellious red. Think you know the rhyme, think again… Divorced. Beheaded. LIVE!

LOVE ISLAND 2019 FINALIST CURTIS PRITCHARD JOINS AJ LIVE!

Curtis Pritchard, runner up in this year’s hit ITV series Love Island, will join his brother AJ Pritchard on his 2020 Dance Tour, following his debut tour in 2019.

AJ Live 2020 will combine the best moments from Strictly you know and love, intertwined with new energy packed choreography for all the family, from AJ and his pick of the best new dance talent in the UK.

Curtis has taken to Instagram to share his excitement. He says “I am so excited to announce I’m going on tour with my brother and best friend…on his AJ Live 2020 Tour!”

AJ Live will be at Wales Millennium Centre 18 March 2020.

 

FULL CAST ANNOUNCED FOR CABARET UK TOUR

Full casting has been announced for Rufus Norris’ multi award-winning production of Kander and Ebb’s landmark musical Cabaret, which arrives at Wales Millennium Centre March 2020.

Joining the already announced John PartridgeKara Lily Hayworth and Anita Harris, is Basienka Blake (Casualty) as Frauelin Kost, Charles Hagerty (The Bodyguard) as Cliff Bradshaw, James Paterson (The Phantom of the Opera) as Herr Schultz and Nick Tizzard (Doc Martin) as Ernst Ludwig.

It’s 1931, Berlin is a haven of divine decadence and the legendary Sally Bowles is about to take stage at the infamous Kit Kat Klub…

Directed by the National Theatre’s Artistic Director Rufus Norris and featuring the Olivier Award Winning Choreography by Javier De Frutos, the production has enjoyed two smash hit West End runs at The Lyric and Savoy theatres.

Cabaret will be at Wales Millennium Centre 24-28 March 2020.

 

OI FROG BOUNCES TO THE CENTRE IN MAY 2020

It’s a new day at Sittingbottom school and FROG is looking for a place to sit, but CAT has other ideas and DOG is doing as he’s told. Little do any of them know that chaos is coming… Who knew there were so many rhyming rules and what will happen when FROG is in charge?

Join FROG, CAT and DOG in this new action-packed stage adaptation of Kes Gray and Jim Field’s bestselling books Oi Frog!, Oi Dog! and Oi Cat! Expect songs, puppets, laughs and more rhymes than you can shake a chime at.

Oi Frog will be at Wales Millennium Centre 1-3 May 2020.
